On The Edge

Powered by a fierce lead performance by Soufia Issami, this visually striking debut film from writer and director Leila Kilani focuses on Badia a rebellious young woman who refuses to accept the limitations put upon her by contemporary Moroccan society. Badia, and her friend Imane work in a stinking shrimp processing plant in Tangier. When they meet two girls from the Europeanized Free Zone who lead better lives, they see an opportunity to climb the social ladder. Badia’s ambition leads her not just to sneak into forbidden zones of the city, but to cross moral borders too, as she enters into a life of crime that has unexpected consequences. - Los Angeles Film Festival 2012.
