More than a decade since Amélie, Audrey Tautou remains a captivating yet elusive screen presence. In Delicacy she is a perky creative management type whose idyllic life crumbles after her dishy husband is “rammed by a car” (says the doctor) while out jogging. A decent period of mourning later, two work colleagues seem likely candidates to fill his shoes: her slick Parisian boss, and an unprepossessing Swede. Can she really fall for this balding, ungainly, nonentity of a man? A film that is charming and sometimes genuinely sad because its tendency to switch back and forth from whimsical cuteness to troublingly genuine emotions keeps us alert throughout.
