Concerts to commemorate Eamonn Ceannt

Jun 10 2016

Liam Ó Flynn, Julie Fowlis, and Paddy Glackin to play the Galway Sessions tributes to 1916 Proclamation signatory

At the concert, Ó Flynn will be joined by two fiddling greats - The Chieftans' Sean Keane and The Bothy Band's Paddy Glackin.

The concert will also hear a newly composed piece by Dave Flynn, commissioned by the Galway City Arts Office and the Galway Music Residency, entitled 'Calmly Awaiting The End', performed by piper Mick O'Brien and the ConTempo Quartet.

The title comes from the last letter Ceannt wrote to his wife Aine O'Breannan, before his execution at Kilmainham gaol on May 8 1916: "My dearest wife Aine, Not wife but widow before these lines reach you. I am here without hope of this world and without fear, Calmly awaiting the end."

There will also be a solo performance from Ronan Browne.
