Well known Galway actress Ann Marie Horan (Ros na Rún) is launching her debut album “AM I AM” at a concert celebration with full band and special guests, including Garry Ó Briain, Dónal Lunny, the Ignite Gospel Choir and cast of Ros na Rún at the Town Hall Theatre on Saturday 9th December at 8pm.
What happens when a menopausal actress hits a mid-life crisis and life as she’s known it starts to unravel?
Does she buy a Harley-Davidson and join a gang of burly bikers burning up Route 66? (nearly did) Does she take a trip to far-flung places, shave her head and disappear off the face of the earth? (partly did) Does she get a part in a TV drama series and go instead on an inner adventure that yields up unexpected treasures (yes, she did)
Ann Marie Horan is this middle-aged actress who turned her adventurous spirit inwards and found excitement, danger and an album of songs on a road less travelled.
Ann Marie has been a regular on TG4’s Ros na Rún since 2007. She also worked for many years in RTÉ Radio and Television as an actress and producer, on programmes such as Fair City and her own play Norah Barnacle-Signora Joyce.
The songs on AM I AM, though drawn from her personal spiritual journey and life experiences, never take themselves too seriously. Renowned producer and multi-instrumentalist Garry Ó Briain composed arrangements that combine Irish and other traditional styles to create a light and deft ‘Folk Fusion’.
The other artists featured are music legends Dónal Lunny (Bouzouki, Bodhrán, Gourd); Dermot Byrne (Accordion); Brian Fleming (Percussion); Tommy Keane (Uileann Pipes & Whistles); Maureen Browne (Fiddle); Paul Johnson (Double Bass); Laura Lynn and Keara Rose MacDhómhnaill (Backing Vocals).
[Ciara O’Connor and Mary Staunton will replace Maureen Browne and Dermot Byrne on the 9th, as Dermot is on tour with Declan O’Rourke and Maureen is gigging with her band Back West]
