Welcome Back

We’re back! And we’re delighted! And we look forward to seeing you all again soon! From Saturday 5 September, the Town Hall and Black Box Theatres will reopen for live performances, albeit initially for a limited number of events each week between now and Christmas and for reduced capacity audiences, in line with Government guidelines to keep everyone safe and sound. Some shows will be livestreamed in an effort to generate additional box office revenue for artists so if you are unable to get a seat in our theatre for such an event, please join us online to support our artists.

The line-up for September includes an eclectic mix of talks and events from Galway International Arts Festival (5, 6, 12 & 26 Sept), concerts by Sean Keane (19 Sept) and Mary Coughlan (24 & 25 Sept) and a special Culture Night (18 Sept) event with our Remote Control Artist In Residency and Galway Dance project. For information and tickets to the Galway International Arts Festival events, visit Tickets for all our other events will be available online from 10am this Thursday 3 September.

Safety & Comfort For All

Over the past few months, the Town Hall team have been working hard to put in place a range of measures to ensure a safe, comfortable and enjoyable experience for all our patrons. The suite of Covid-19 safety measures now in place include reduced capacity for each of our venues, socially distanced seating arrangements (currently 2m between groups) and wearing of face coverings. Initially, events will typically be of 60-70 minute duration without interval. For the safety of customers and staff, the bar will not initially open.

Other safety measures include hand sanitiser dispensers at entrances and throughout the building, one-way systems, contact tracing capacity, increased and enhanced cleaning regime, increased and enhanced air handling, contactless ticketing, contactless payment where feasible, PPE protocols to include protective screens at public-facing desks, social distanced queueing, extensive and clear Covid-19 signage throughout the building reminding us all to observe social distancing, cough etiquette and hand hygiene,  managed bathroom queuing, non-twist taps and paper towels instead of hand driers in public bathrooms and dressing rooms, capacity limit on stage numbers and in all backstage rooms, removal of excess furniture from public areas and the removal of brochures and fliers from public display.

New Measures

To ensure patrons can have a safe and enjoyable trip to the theatre with family and friends, we ask all patrons to be aware of the following new measures in place:

Tickets and contact tracing: All tickets must be purchased in advance - online or via phone. No hard copy tickets will be issued. After you have purchased your ticket, it will be emailed to you. Please ensure to bring this information with you on the day of the event. Note our box office will not be open for ticket collection. The contact details you provide at the point of booking will be used for contact tracing if required. Under 12’s must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18 at all times.

Symptoms: We respectfully ask if you feel unwell or have been in contact with someone who is unwell, has travelled from abroad and/or is isolating, please do not attend any of our performances. Please refer to for full public health advice on Covid-19 and contact Box Office who will offer you the options of a full refund or a credit on your account.

Face coverings: All patrons and staff must wear a face covering. Please bring your own face covering.

Physical distance: Please ensure to keep your distance from audience members that are not with your group. Seating will be organised so that each booking is seated 2m from another. Group bookings will be limited to 6 persons from a maximum of 3 households. Please book tickets responsibly, within Government guidelines.

On arrival: Please arrive on time, ideally at least 20 minutes before the event begins. One of our staff will meet you at the entrance to check your name and ticket – please have this information ready. They will show you where to go. Please use the hand sanitiser available at the entrance and in the foyer. At the entrance to the auditorium, another staff member will indicate where your seat is. Audience members should proceed straight to their assigned seats when they arrive to the venue. Please note the bar will not be open.

Building circulation, access and egress: A one way system is in place. Please follow staff direction and the signage on the floor and the walls. When the event is over, a member of staff will indicate when your section is to leave.

Capacities: The capacity for our events is currently capped at 50 persons including performers, crew, staff and audience. Our toilet facilities are for customer use only and will have capacities displayed on the door - a member of staff will manage numbers entering.

Cleaning: We have an increased and enhanced cleaning regime in place to ensure that the venue is clean and hygienic at all times. Our venues will be cleaned between all performances.

The above measures have been put in place to maintain the safety of all who attend and visit the Town Hall and Black Box Theatres. Our staff have undergone extensive re-training and are here to help. If you have any questions – just ask! We will be delighted to assist you. Thank you for your co-operation - and we hope you enjoy your visit! And again – welcome back!
