Town Hall Theatre Announces Recipients of 2021 Patron Donation Awards

Patron Donation Awards

Town Hall Theatre this week announced the recipients of its 2021 Patron Donation Awards for artists, companies and producers based in Galway.  The purpose of the Awards is to support applicants to research and develop projects which are original and ambitious. The awards this year were made possible by the significant support of the Arts Council and the generosity the Town Hall’s valued patrons.

Seven awards of between €4000 and €8000 were announced. 17 excellent submissions were received, making the assessment process very competitive. The number and calibre of the submissions were so high that the Town Hall increased the planned fund to €32,000, highlighting yet again the strength, quality and ambition of Galway’s artists.

Town Hall Theatre was delighted to receive a wide variety of proposals seeking to present work in dynamic and innovative ways and which will forge new partnerships and collaborations. The seven successful applicants were David Joyce to develop a new play, Eileen Gibbons to complete a work in development, Eimear Finan to develop a new play, Kristyn Fontanella to develop a new traditional dance piece, Maria Auletta to develop a new theatre show for children, Ollie Jennings to develop a new musical theatre production, Paraic Breathnach to develop a new Irish language production. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all who made submissions.  In addition to the financial bursary, the awards will include rehearsal/development space in the Town Hall Theatre and mentoring support.

Announcing the award recipients, Town Hall Director Fergal Mc Grath said ‘’it is envisioned that the successful applicants will develop their work within the Town Hall Theatre, and be supported by the organisation to bring their work to the next stage. All of the team at the Town Hall Theatre are looking forward to working with the award winners and seeing how all projects develop’’

The Town Hall Theatre is Galway’s premier performing arts venue, at the epicentre of Galway’s cultural activity and providing a platform and supportive environment for artists and arts organisations. These awards are part of a number of initiatives to encourage and support creative development for Galway artists, companies and producers and to assist with the creation of work by Galway artists in the performing arts; theatre, music and dance. The Town Hall Theatre will continue to support artists during the Covid-19 crisis, through a range of measures made possible by the support of the Arts Council and the generosity our valued audience.

The Town Hall Theatre earlier this year introduced a Patron Donation option to its online booking system and seeks support for the scheme and all income from donations received will be invested in the Awards. Anyone who wishes to donate to the Awards should visit tht.ie/patron-donation-awards/ Town Hall Theatre had guaranteed a minimum fund of €12,000 in 2020 and with the support of the Arts Council increased this to €32,000 in 2021. Town Hall Theatre wishes to thank everyone who has donated in recent months and looks forward to your continued support for the development and creation of exciting work by artists in Galway in the future. An open call for next year’s Awards will take place in April 2022.
