Town Hall Theatre announces revised programme for January

Following the Government announcement on Fri 17 December, the Town Hall Theatre team have had to scale back the programme of events planned for January – there will be fewer events, they will finish before 8pm, they will accommodate just 50% of the theatre’s usual capacity for performances and some will be livestreamed. Details of the revised line up are available on www.tht.ie and social media channels will carry regular updates. The Town Hall box office will be in touch with customers impacted by the changes.

Notwithstanding the above, the Town Hall team have an impressive and eclectic line up this January.

The Town Hall Theatre, in association with Strange Brew, will present the very best of local live acts at the Town Hall at 5pm on 3 Saturday nights in January - Sat 8 January Tracy Bruen & Eoin Dolan; Sat 15 January Brad Heidi & Anna Carmody and Sat 29 January Anna Mullarkey & Jossle. Tickets (In-Person & Online) are just €5. Limited capacity, so don’t delay. Event duration 80 mins.

The Town Hall Theatre has teamed up with Galway Film Society to welcome back cinema audiences early evenings on Sundays in January, enabling them showcase the venue’s brand new digital film system with The Mystery of Henri Pick (an easily digestible and highly cultivated whodunit) on Sun 9 January and Dream Horse (a beautiful feel good movie about the true story a Welsh cleaner and bartender, who decides to breed and rear a race horse) on Sun 30 January – both screenings are at 5pm. Tickets €10*/€9* (€8* Galway Film Society Membership).

Atlantic Arc is a collaborative project that brings together some of the most respected traditional musicians from Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland, under the musical direction of one of Ireland's most accomplished performers, composers and producers, Dónal Lunny. A superb opportunity to see the maestros at work 6pm on Sun 16 January the Black Box.

Music for Galway is continuing to prepare for its Midwinter Festival, Stanford, which will take place at the Town Hall Theatre from Fri 21 to Sun 23 January. However, following the most recent government guidelines, the times of several events have been rescheduled, concerts have been shortened and an extra concert added allowing Music for Galway to present the full programme that it had originally planned.

Irish National Opera will present Bajazet by Vivaldi, an extraordinary thriller and featuring the acclaimed Irish Baroque Orchestra, on Tues 25 January at the earlier time of 5pm.

Joanne McNally returns, this time with her brand new and sell-out show The Prosecco Express. This event will now have an earlier start at 6pm and because it has sold more than the permitted 50%, our box office will be in touch with customers to ask if there are any bookers who no longer wish to attend the show. Once we have processed these refunds, we will then review our remaining audience numbers and, only if required, reorganise the performance on a “first booked, first served” basis.

Breath is a music play featuring multi-instrumentalist Steve Wickham of The Waterboys and Carpet Theatre actor Karl Quinn. Directed by Galway-man Ciarán Taylor and now at the new time of 6.30pm on Fri 28 January.

Please note the Town Hall Theatre Box Office will close 1pm Thurs 23 and reopen Wed 29 December. It will close 1pm Fri 31 Dec & reopen Tues 4 January. A wide range of Covid-19 mitigation measures remain in place in both the Town Hall and Black Box to keep everyone safe. Following the Government announcement of 19 October, all ticket holders are required to produce proof of immunity (Digital Covid Certificate or Recovery Certificate) and photo ID upon entry. Patrons are also required to continue to wear masks throughout their time in our theatres and we ask patrons to be respectful of each other’s space when moving about. Accompanied minors (children under 18 who are accompanied by an adult) do not need proof of vaccination or recovery. If you have purchased tickets for Town Hall shows but don’t have proof of immunity, you are entitled to a full refund.
