Town Hall Theatre today announced details of its Summer-Autumn programme and published its first season brochure since March 2020, marking yet another important milestone on the long and winding road to the venue’s return to full operations post-Covid.
The July-September line-up features many of the best in local, national and international theatre including many Galway favourites - Blue Teapot, Christian O’Reilly, Decadent, the Abbey, The Gate, Theatre Lovett, Footsbarn and Steppenwolf alongside a super line up of film, dance, music, comedy - and magic! Customers can buy tickets for all events online 24 hours www.tht.ie or from the box office 091 569777 and, for news and regular updates, find the Town Hall on Facebook and follow it on Twitter and Instagram. The Town Hall Theatre, with the support of the Galway City Arts Office and Creative Ireland, is particularly proud this season to present a series of free, outdoor performances by dance artist Rob Heaslip. These vibrant and energetic outdoor pop-up 25 minute performances will take place in communities and locations across the east and west sides of the city in early August. Featuring luminous straw dancers whirling to Balkan inspired beats, Strawboys will uniquely reignite the cultural tradition of Wren Boys. See www.tht.ie from mid-July for updates on performance locations.
Town Hall Theatre was busy during Covid and is now proud to invite patrons to try the venue’s new, cloud-based ticketing system, designed to be fully responsive and making it easier to book tickets from whatever device you choose - PC, tablet, or mobile phone. Patrons are also invited to visit and enjoy the new digital cinema system, installed last year and fully operational for the Galway Film Fleadh in July.
The pandemic was difficult for many, particularly for those working in tourism and hospitality but especially for those working in the cultural sector – with artists and arts workers particularly vulnerable. Throughout the crisis, the Town Hall endeavoured to support Galway artists and arts workers and to support creative development for artists, producers, and companies through initiating an extensive series of bursaries, commissions, and outreach projects. Patrons can help the venue continue that important support for local artists by donating to its Patron Donation Fund via the Town Hall website. An open call for the 2022 Awards will take place in July.
