THE UKULELE Orchestra of Great Britain, the world renowned all-singing, all-plucking, devotees to the tiny four stringed instrument, celebrated for their covers of 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', and 'Pinball Wizard', are coming to Galway.
The orchestra, which last year celebrated 30 years together and who in 2016, will have been active for one billion seconds, play the Town Hall Theatre on September 9 at 8pm, as part of their The Gigasecond Tour.
The orchestra was formed in 1985 as a bit of fun, but their first gig was an instant sell-out, encouraging the group to keep going. By 1988 they had released an album, appeared on BBC TV, played at WOMAD, and recorded a BBC Radio 1 session. Eventually this led to international touring, and in recent years playing the Sydney Opera House, The Royal Albert Hall, and New York's Carnegie Hall.
