MICHAEL O'CONNOR, the Galway/Mayo country and folk singer-songwriter, launches his third album, Market Plaice, in the Town Hall Theatre studio on Thursday June 29 as part of the Colours Fringe Festival.
Before turning to music, Michael worked in the meat industry, and he draws on this experience in the title track which is based around the idea of a fish breathing its last breath on a market stall. He also argues that the meat industry is far less cut-throat than the music industry on 'A Pet Name Lyrics'. After winning the John Arden Award in 2015 for a poem called Sanctimonious-ness, Michael rewrote it as a song included on this album.
