The musical theatre show, Ladies in the Blues, which play Galway’s Town Hall Theatre next Friday, September 6, is celebration of women’s role in the history of the blues.
It tells that story from the music’s Gospel roots of the 1920s, through vaudeville and jazz, to the blues rock of the 1960s and 70s is coming to Galway from its success in Glastonbury.
This all-Irish cast of four diverse female singers and a cracking band of blues sidemen return to Galway and will bring the audience on a women’s journey through song with iconic visual backdrops of the great female trailblazers. These include Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Ma Rainey, Etta James, Sr Rosetta Tharpe, Bessie Smith and Janice Joplin among others.
