Corona Virus Update

Under the Government’s accelerated reopening schedule, theatres, music venues, concert halls and cinemas are now allowed reopen from 29 June, subject to social distancing and other measures being in place and to a maximum of 50 people (increasing to 100 people from 20 July). However, the impact of social distancing - on our audience capacities and on our productions – remains and is significant. Town Hall Theatre relies on box office and bar sales for 80% of our income. With social distancing, we can attain just 10% of our audience capacity at 2m distance and even if this were to be reduced by Government to 1m, we could still only achieve 20% of our capacity, undermining the viability of our operation. Social distancing also has a significant impact on our performers in their ability to rehearse and perform and many shows have been cancelled because of this.

There may be many challenges ahead but we are determined to press on and get to the ‘new normal’ as soon as we can! We are currently actively working on a comprehensive suite of measures to ensure the safety and comfort of our audiences, performers and staff when we reopen and we are looking forward to welcoming you all back to the Town Hall and Black Box Theatres once these measures are in place. And we are also actively restructuring our programme to take account of the cancellations and changes arising from revised touring, production and performance schedules. Please keep an eye on our website and social media pages for programme updates.

Thank you for your support and patience from all of us here at the Town Hall Theatre. Such support and understanding is appreciated! And many patrons have asked if there is a way that they can support the production companies and artists during this difficult time of closure, postponements and cancellations. You will have the option of a full refund, the opportunity to transfer to the re-scheduled date where applicable or you can donate the price of one or more of your tickets to the company/artist. And you can separately support local artists via the Patron Donation Award option on our website, here.

Once again, thank you all so much for your support.

Kind regards,
Fergal Mc Grath and all the team at the Town Hall Theatre
